LMV-NT (also simply "LMV" in post-2016 practice) authorises the holder to drive a Light Motor Vehicle (private car, jeep, personal SUV, personal pick-up) of GVW not exceeding 7,500 kg, for non-transport (private, non-commercial, non-fare-paying) use only. Minimum age 18, no transport badge, no PESO training.

LMV-NT (post-2016 practice में सिर्फ़ "LMV") — GVW 7,500 kg तक की Light Motor Vehicle (private car, jeep, personal SUV, personal pick-up) को non-transport (private, non-commercial, बिना किराया) use में चलाने की अनुमति। न्यूनतम उम्र 18 वर्ष, transport badge और PESO training नहीं।

Policy wording sample"The person driving the vehicle shall hold an effective Driving Licence of the class LMV (Non-Transport) as per Section 10(2)(d) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Use of the vehicle for the carriage of passengers or goods for hire or reward shall additionally require a Transport-vehicle endorsement, subject to the law prevailing at the time of the loss."

Verdict

Verify (i) LMV endorsement on DOL, (ii) vehicle in RC is Non-Transport category, (iii) vehicle actually in non-fare, non-commercial use at the time of loss. A LMV-NT driver carrying paid passengers (Ola / Uber / local taxi) is in BREACH — see the "Mukund Dewangan vs Oriental" 2017 ruling followed by the 2023 Supreme Court referral (as of this writing, the law is still favourable to LMV-NT holders driving transport vehicles up to 7,500 kg, but a Constitutional Bench has reserved judgment — report the fact, note the dispute, do not conclude on your own).
